about

Zoe Says: “I think this poem by Pete is quite stunning, a masterpiece… I love it, and the hypnotic and repetitive melody came to me as instantly and effortlessly as the chord sequence did to Rob.”
Sand in my toes, on this lazy beach

lyrics

Sand in my toes, on this lazy beach
See the sun going down, ‘til its out of reach
Seagulls hit the spray for something to eat
Salt water delights that can’t be beat

It’s evening time and the shutters are down
Lamp lights flicker gently, in this sleepy town
Critters and creatures and bats of the night
Night time is their time, they‘ll give you a fright

Sultry ‘n’ slowly, ‘aint no need to rush
Dude’s getting worked up, deep in the bush
Moaning and sweating with the baker’s daughter
Doing things, they shouldn’t oughta

Night moves, and clinches, ‘n’ push and shove
Sleepy town’s in motion, can you feel the love?
Some folks do that and some do this
Some folks don’t even get beyond a kiss

Seaside frolics, ‘n’ slap and tickle
Enjoy the free ride, won’t cost you a nickel
Some get lucky and some get drunk
Some end up poets, others a punk

The call of the night takes many forms
Do what you wanna, up until the dawn
Rollin and tumblin’ in that sleepy town
Hot and sweaty under the eiderdown

Cock crows loudly at breakfast time
No one stirs ‘til quarter to nine
Some get up and buy a paper
Others laugh it off, as a meaningless caper

Sunlight sparkles on the day they like best
No such fun, on the day of rest
Few of the folks, they wake and yawn
Can’t believe they made it, up until dawn

Come midday and they’ll hit the pub
Drink too much and start stirring it up
They’ll stagger home and want some more
But crash right out on the livin’ room floor

Sand in my toes on this lazy beach
See the sun going down, ‘til it’s out of reach
Seagulls hit the spray for something to eat
Salt water delights that can’t be beat
